Drill, baby, drill...........

Pickleball pros reportedly spend between 3 and 9 hours drilling for every hour playing practice games. Wonder why?

Aside from being their occupation, exercise and social activity, they understand the value of accepting human nature; we like to repeat behaviors whether successful or not. Our visual scenario development as the game plays out seeks to recognize situations and know how to react based upon repetition. Once we "SEE" the play unfolding, our brain summons the most likely response we trust. And what we trust is generally the most familiar. Problem is repetition creates muscle memory and doesn't concern itself with outcome. (How many times have we sped up a ball well below the net hoping it goes over no matter how many times we have seen that ball smash into the net). Drilling creates reps, which creates muscle memory and reduces or expands your shot selection options. Drilling allows the brain and muscle to practice shots to develop proper technique and decision making.

Club drills are sponsored during club hours (10:00 - 12:00 Tuesday Sarah's women's group and/or Thursdays for 8 weeks starting July 9, 2026 (Competitive Men's drill 9:30 - 11:00. Competitive Women's 08:30- 10:00). There will be a charge of $40 for the 8 sessions. The fee is to ensure attendance since each group will be limited to only 12 players/group. Group Coordinators do NOT receive payment. All money goes to club donations for club equipment such as balls, water, etc. Sign up will be on website and will open shortly.

Also catch up on club news and plans for the future. Please respond at the website so a reasonably accurate count can be obtained. Hope to see you there.

Organic Drill Groups

Any group of players can start their own drill groups to work on skills appropriate to your level. A drill leader does not need to be the best player or the most skilled. YouTube and hundreds of other sites offer a myriad of drills to copy. Any group of players can start their own drill groups to work on skills appropriate to your level. HAY DAY

In memory of Alan Hay, Friday 6/26 is officially designated as HayDay. Let's honor the memory of our playmate, his wife, Melissa and Luke. All are encouraged to mimic Alan's colorful garb and matching shoes and hats. Having a dozen paddles earns extra points. Bring your chairs, drinks and snacks and make a day or morning of it. Let's capture his joy of spirit, his readiness to laugh and his unabashed lack of embarrassment in his clothing choices. We'll play regular Open Play starting at 9:00 and will stop for snacks around 11:00.
