We now enter the last half of this year's tournament season. Our competitive teams continue to work together in preparation for upcoming tournaments. There are numerous geographically close in the next 2-3 months - just search for Georgia tournaments on the PickleballBrackets.com website. One of the most anticipated hereabouts is Hiawassee, which is the first weekend in October. Hopefully, we'll begin to enjoy cooler weather for these tournaments.

While higher level competitors arrange training with same skill opponents, the courts wind up less crowded allowing for remaining players to up their skills or just slap the ball around because, well, it's fun.

HCPC is known as a "travels well" club. We support one another by cheering and encouraging our players. It's fun to attend tournaments, even if we aren't playing, to support our group. Attending as a spectator gives you a feel for tournaments and what you need to develop to compete. So, come on out, cheer on your friends and look for the HCPC tent and feather flag.

Adding Benches

We will soon have two new eight-foot benches (from our "Wish List") for the outdoor courts. This "Wish" is made possible thanks to Gene Caso who generously contributed the funds needed. Make sure to thank Gene when you next see him! Expanding room for extra butts is not to be taken lightly. We will wait until after the courts are resurfaced before placing the order.

Drill Groups

Thursday, August 26th was the last session for drill groups until next quarter. Drilling is vital to improvement at all levels. You can continue with groups of players drilling among yourselves on the designated "Drill Days" (Tuesday & Thursday from 8:00-11:00). YouTube, among other platforms, will lead you to endless drill routines to copy.

Private and Group lessons: available by private (for pay) instructors who have offered to give lessons on our courts. Christine, Rudy Jr., and Austin will offer lessons along with a newer coach, Heath Lucas. When paying for lessons, the court (s) need to be reserved through the Rec Department. The cost is $10/hour/court. Contact them individually for details. The contact info for each is available on Website (select "JOIN" and scroll down).

Rockin’ HCPC Gear!

Tournament season continues, so it’s the perfect time to freshen up your HCPC look — and maybe your doubles partner’s, too! 😎

Be sure to check out the HCPC Store on our website for hats, shirts, hoodies, jackets, vests, and more. There’s something for everyone!

Don’t see what you’re looking for? No worries! Not all of our available items have been uploaded to the website yet. Reach out to Marva for more information or to place an order.

💦 HOT Weather = Towel Time!

With these HOT temperatures, a good towel is definitely a pickleball essential! We have Habersham HCPC towels available for just $5 each.

See P1 if you’d like one! The towels will be in the back of her vehicle at the courts, so just catch her when you see her out there. 🏓💦

Show your HCPC pride and stay cool while you’re doing it!

Court Resurfacing

We are closer to the pickleball and tennis courts being resurfaced. A vendor has been selected and the contract is currently being signed. Once a scheduled start date is known, it will be posted on the website calendar, on Facebook, and the Groupme accounts.

We're hoping for late September or early October and can't wait for filled cracks and a fresh coat of paint! The contractor will remove the nets, repair/fill cracks, resurface, repaint and restripe, then re-hang the nets.

🧹 HOUSEKEEPING… Gentle Reminders

We appreciate everyone who helps keep our storage shed neat, organized, and accessible. A few gentle reminders will help us all find what we need when we need it!

1. Keep the Outdoor Shed Organized

If you use something from the shed—for example, the blower—please return it to the same place when you’re finished.

2. First-Aid Kit – It’s There for YOU!

We keep a first-aid kit available for everyone. If you use something:

  • Please throw away any trash rather than putting it back in the kit.

  • If you open a package (such as Band-Aids), please keep the remaining items in their original box and close it.

  • If you remove something (such as tape), please return it to the first-aid kit.

  • Finally, please put the first-aid kit back where you found it.

3. Thank You for Bringing Bottled Water!

We truly appreciate those who bring bottled water for everyone. 💧Please don’t leave cases just anywhere in the shed. Stack them neatly in a location that allows easy access to the ball machine and refrigerator.

4. Replacing Water in the Refrigerator

Thank you for keeping the refrigerator stocked! If you are replacing water, please finish the open case before opening a new one.

5. LEFT-BEHIND ITEMS

We now have a container clearly marked LEFT-BEHIND ITEMS. If you find or have an item that someone has left, please place it IN THIS CONTAINER rather than leaving it elsewhere in the shed.

THANK YOU! ❤️

We appreciate everyone doing their part to keep our storage area clean, neat, organized, and easy for everyone to use.

A little effort from each of us makes a big difference!

Next Board Meeting will be Tuesday, September 15th, at 12:00. There is time on the agenda for your thoughts and suggestions. As always, we welcome you to join us. If you wish to be heard, please contact any Board member.

And that will be enough of that....
