January 2025 Habersham County Pickleball Club

Pickleball Family,

Happy New Year! I want to extend my thanks for your patience as we start this first Newsletter of the year a bit later than usual. There have been a few unexpected circumstances that caused unexpected delays.

Despite this setback, I’m thrilled to share that we have exciting plans in store for 2025! I'll post a few below but stay tuned for more to come. We aim to make this another outstanding year for HCPC.

I hope to see you on the courts! P1

Our FIRST event of the New Year will be our DINK Your HEART Out Dinking Round Robin and Social on February 13th. Based on the hearty enthusiasm from the last three years, we will once again support National HEART HEALTH month. A separate email was sent on 1/17/25 with details and Registration link.

REMINDER: Our revamped WEBSITE is now LIVE. Please go to HabPickleball.com or HabershamCountyPickleballClub.com and check out the changes.

As our Website Team is onboarded, further adjustments will be implemented. Meanwhile, note the new additions: the Clubwear Store, the Donate button, and soon, a Webcam will be active. This will allow your family and friends to watch events on the courts and enable us to monitor the courts for weather conditions or activity.

VAPTR Update We've purchased our third replacement carpet for the VAPTR. We'll train a VAPTR Crew to be in charge of replacing and maintaining this valuable piece of equipment we are fortunate to own. If not used properly, the carpet gets off-center which lessens the effectiveness of this equipment. Going forward, only those that have been trained in the proper use of how to operate the VAPTR will be allowed to use it. We'll plan a Day of Demonstration in the near future and ask you to sign up if you are interested in being trained.

Important Safety Reminder

While we all strive to enjoy the game of pickleball safely, it’s important to acknowledge that accidents and falls can happen. Recently, we’ve been made aware of several injuries, and we want to ensure the proper steps are taken when incidents occur.

The Parks and Recreation Department requires that all accidents be immediately reported to the desk. Additionally, because our Club is contacted regarding these reports (as outlined in our Memorandum of Understanding), it is essential that a member of the HCPC Board is notified at the same time.

We kindly ask that if you are present when an accident occurs, please:

  1. Inform the desk staff of the incident as soon as possible.

  2. Notify a Board Member to ensure the Club is aware and can follow up appropriately.

Your cooperation helps us maintain a safe and supportive environment for everyone. Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

Clarification on Court Schedules

To ensure everyone enjoys their time on the courts, we’d like to remind all pickleball players to be mindful of the scheduled court usage per our Memorandum of Understanding. These hours are posted outside the indoor gyms and on the main gate of the outdoor courts.

  1. Scheduled Open Play Hours: These times are designated for play to follow the "Play-In" Guidelines that are posted.

  2. Scheduled Drill Hours: The posted Drill Schedule times are set aside for skill-building and practice drills. New in 2025, all Drill Groups will be limited to the use of 3 courts. When only one Drill Group is scheduled, this will leave 3 courts available for Open Play. On Thursday's, when there are potentially 2 Drill Groups at the same time, each group will have access to 3 courts. At the end of the Drill hours posted, it will revert to Open Play for all.

  3. Public Open Play: Any remaining hours outside of the posted scheduled times are available for public open play, welcoming all players to use the courts.

We kindly ask that everyone respect these schedules to help maintain fairness and organization on the courts. If you’re unsure of the schedule, please contact a Board Member for clarification.

Thank you for your cooperation in creating a positive experience for all players!

Our next Board meeting will be January 29th at 12:30 in the Activity Room in the Aquatic Center. There is time on the agenda for your thoughts and suggestions. As always, we welcome you to join us.

And That’s a WRAP!

Paddles up, Toe the line, and DINK positive!
